אליפות העולם באתלטיקה 2001 הייתה אליפות העולם השמינית באתלטיקה, שנערכה בין 3 ל-12 באוגוסט 2001 באדמונטון שבקנדה. בתחרות השתתפו 1677 אתלטים. טקס הפתיחה והתחרויות התקיימו באצטדיון קומון וולת'. באליפות לא נשבר אף שיא עולם, אך נשברו שמונה שיאי אליפות (חמישה שיאים אצל הגברים ושלושה אצל הנשים). אליפות עולם זו הייתה האליפות האחרונה שבה לא התקיימה ריצת 3000 מטר מכשולים לנשים.
